Whitby Rippers

Ready to be a Whitby Ripper? Want to surf like the pros or develop surf lifesaving skills you can use on the beach? Want to learn how to paddleboard? This club is for 8 to 16 year olds stoked by the idea of stepping foot in the sea. We’re ready to see the next generation of Whitby beach lovers take to the waves, and this fully inclusive, accessible, and affordable club is the place to do it.

Whitby Rippers is a fantastic way for budding surfers to start their new adventure. All abilities are welcome, and the club provides both an introduction and progressive coaching to encourage even the newest of surfers to commit to this awe-inspiring sport.

Not only is it a fantastic opportunity for young Rippers to get out in the sea but surfing also gives them an opportunity to improve dexterity, strength and physical fitness that will aid them through all walks of life. They’ll grow an in-depth understanding of the beach environment, be fully immersed in our blossoming surf culture, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Not only do Whitby Rippers learn how to surf, they will also learn how to bodyboard and when there is no surf they will also learn how to paddleboard. We try keep sessions slightly different each week so we like to play beach games to start off the session, which is a fantastic way to warm up and for the new Rippers to get to know each other.

The sessions are ideal for total beginners, or young surfers looking to develop their techniques, gain expert advice and experience surf lifesaving – everybody is welcome!

A lot of our activities prove to be exceedingly popular, so we would always recommend booking a place in the club in advance. You can book online, or if you would like a little more information then you can contact us and we would be more than happy to answer any questions.

Whats it all about

Whitby Rippers (8-16 years) will be taught everything they need to know to build their watersports skills. This will include:

  • Surf-lifesaving skills, so they can return to the ocean confident in the knowledge that they know how to help anyone at risk – these will also prepare them for a potential future as a RNLI beach lifeguard.
  • Surf coaching and technique – Become Whitby’s Kelly Slater and develop the skills to continue to improve and flourish as a surfer.
  • Water and Beach safety. Safety is our number one priority at Whitby Surf School so you can drop your Ripper off with the knowledge that they’ll have a fantastic time and come away with an understanding of the beach that will continue to keep them safe in the future.
  • Water confidence – just getting in the sea will start to develop confidence, and our thrilling activities will ensure it keeps growing with each session.
  • Learning how to surf, bodyboard and paddleboard.
